Went through this book very quickly - the story was great especially since I live in the area. Kept thinking what an entertaining movie it would make. Characters were believable and true to life. Would really enjoy a sequel to this - I'm still curious what will continue to happen to these families - worth the read
I got Shrimpin' Gold to read on a Christmas Markets River Cruise on the Danube. I was looking for something easy to read, not requiring a lot of concentration, but still having an interesting plot. This book had it all. There were several twists that I could not have dreamed the way they would turn out, but I kept hoping that Bob would give the story a happy ending. It kept me intrigued the entire book. I love a good story, when I don't have to work at keeping track of the characters and what happened when I last put the book down. It was an easy, fun read, and perfect for the river cruise.
I was enthralled by the detail, the settings and the plot of this novel by Bob Spearman. His knowledge of, and love for, the South Carolina coast shines through, as does the fruit of his careful research into the intricacies of shrimping and the esoteric details of maritime law.
Building on the foundation of his knowledge and research, Spearman has developed a believable set of characters for us to root for, and a plot that is complex enough to keep our attention from start to finish. I look forward to reading his other books.

The Dodd family has been a fixture of the lowcountry shrimping community for generations. Harlin, the current captain of the Dodd business, is trying to provide for his family, something that's getting harder and harder to do with each passing year. When the economic stresses of Harlin's day-to-day work combine with his desire to give some financial help to the family of a long-time employee, his daughter's drive to become part of the business, and his son's burgeoning career as a baseball wunderkind, he finds himself entangled in a situation that could prove to be either the family's salvation or its undoing.
This was a well-paced story that resonated with real-life struggles, family dynamics, and crackling suspense. It asks the reader to do some hard thinking about what he or she might do if placed in a damned-if-you-do, damned-if-you-don't situation.
A wonderful fun summer read. Takes place near Charleston, SC and keeps you guessing until the end.
Shrimpin' Gold is a fun read with plenty of action and a great storyline. It has just enough plot twist and surprises to keep the reader guessing. This is a great sit by the pool summer read!
